Madame Phoebia Cheek Sullivan, born in 1855, relocated with her family to Saluda, North Carolina as part of the "Great Migration." She was a remarkable figure who lived over a century. She was celebrated as renowned divine healer, herb doctor, and seer.

People from across the country journeyed to her 55-acre Sullivan Estate in Saluda to seek healing from Madame Sullivan. This land was not only her family’s home but also a sanctuary where other Black families were invited to build homes for their own.

In 2020, Madame Sullivan's descendants founded the Madame Phoebia Cheek Sullivan Memorial Park, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our initiative aims to preserve the family estate, restore the Sullivan Baptist Temple facade, develop a nature park with trails, and construct a memorial honoring Phoebia Cheek Sullivan's legacy.

Since its inception, the organization has grown into a dynamic conservation movement in southeastern North Carolina, collaborating with partners who share a commitment to this shared vision.
